Dr
Raja is a renowned periodontist and academic at the School of Dental Sciences,
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), where he has been a dedicated faculty member
since 1999. Dr Raja earned his PhD in periodontal immunology from the
University of Glasgow, UK, in 2014, complementing his specialist training in
periodontics (M.Clin.Dent) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.), both from
the University of Malaya in 2004 and 1997, respectively. Dr. Raja is an expert
in periodontology and dental biomaterials, with research interests spanning periodontal
immunology, clinical studies, teledentistry, and the development of innovative
biomaterials. He has an extensive portfolio of internationally refereed
publications in high-impact journals and serves as an editor for several
esteemed dental and oral health journals. At USM, Dr. Raja teaches
periodontology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He currently
leads the Periodontics Unit and serves as the Postgraduate Coordinator for the
Periodontics Programme. His commitment to education and mentorship has extended
to the supervision of numerous research projects at the doctoral and master's
levels. Dr. Raja has held significant leadership roles in professional
organizations, including serving as President of the International Association
for Dental Research (IADR) Malaysian Section (2018–2020) and Vice President of
the Malaysian Society of Oral Microbiologists and Oral Pathologists (MySOMOI)
(2018–2020). Beyond academia, Dr. Raja has contributed to public education by
authoring children’s books for Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, focusing on oral
health awareness. With a blend of clinical expertise, academic leadership, and
research excellence, Dr Raja is a committed advocate for advancing oral health
education and research.
